1. I’ve been thinking a lot about just how corroded the office of the Attorney General has become. But this new, indefensible financial impropriety is moving the AG from the realm of political corruption toward the creation of a lawless American oligarchy. Here’s why:
2. This conduct - an Attorney General dumping tens of thousands of dollars into the Trump family coffers - has nothing to do with the unitary executive theory (that is, Barr’s view that a president is king so he can’t be charged with a crime). It has nothing to do with . . .
3. a disagreement over the quality or quantity of evidence in the Mueller report. It has nothing to do with a love of guns or of fetuses (or of the cruel satisfaction some seem to get from passing laws designed to deprive women of autonomy over their reproductive decisions). . .
4. It has nothing to do with building walls or caging kids or “sending Congresswomen back.” In sum, it has nothing to do with what seems to be present-day Republican orthodoxy. No. What Barr’s “Trump-Money-Dump” represents, plain & simple, is a celebration of unethical behavior.
5. It’s akin to spiking the football after you were caught cheating to score the touchdown. It’s reveling in financial conflict & impropriety. It’s doing the wrong thing because you think can get away with it. And it represents Barr’s attempt to break loose of of all laws and ...
6. all ethical constraints. The day will come when the Trumps and the Barrs and the McConnells of this dark period in our nation’s history will be held accountable for what they’ve done to the people. And then . . . we rebuild. #JusticeIsComing
