Yesterday we asked for unredacted copies of documents in our case to prevent the suspension of Parliament. Responding, David Johnston QC, for the Government, said in open court that he had read the unredacted documents and there was nothing relevant in them. And I believed him.
That anecdote is significant. We have, by and large, in the United Kingdom an exceptional legal profession. Together, though we be opponents, we are guardians of values dearer to us even than self-interest. That I immediately believed Johnstone made me proud to be a lawyer.
(Even if some of us can't spell very well - Johnston/Johnstone.)
