+WSJ reports that Visa and MasterCard are getting cold feet around the Libra Association

+A new crypto advocacy group + A congressional candidate taking on Nancy Pelosi's pro-crypto stance

+BTC volumes are up in Hong Kong - but who is buying?
My takes:

+The cold-feet rumors aren't new, the positioning out of Libra leaves some space to explain why certain members leave, but I don't think they're stressing about this particularly.

+I'm way pro more pro-crypto candidates and advocacy groups

+Really want to know more
When I say "Really want to know more" wrt to Hong Kong what I mean is that I think we're all really trying to understand the relationship of BTC to global events in practice not just in theory. Understanding *WHO* is buying could help us understand.
Put differently: is BTC serving just as a way for old money to escape turbulence or does it represent a new generation of Hong Kong citizens opting out of today's financial system?

Or both?

My hot takes:

1. A whole lot more $$$ for lawyers to debate this; seems like a BIG problem

2. I really want to know why Open Libra thinks the project is valuable without the network of 2 billion

3. More headwinds for original Libra - it's getting more, not less, aggressive

Okay, so, OpenLibra.

I've read:

+Why it's a distraction
+Why it legitimates authoritarianism
+Q's about why Libra matters w/o FB's network
+Q's about leadership

But I've read nothing about what the team believes is so good about Libra that it needs an open version? Help?

To be clear, I'm not trolling. The closest thing I can see from the @coindesk article is this line

"Still, Geiger said the idea for Libra and its technology was not only brilliant but “likely to become the currency of the internet.”"

But the question is why?

HK will likely ignite again on June 12 when the extradition bill is scheduled for second reading. Calls for actions have are now circulating in Telegram groups. Not heeding the popular will is going to have dire long term consequences for the HK government.
