Satirical threads like this seek to make apparent just how absurd Trump sounds to anyone who knows anything about US history or politics. But such an approach has zero impact on MAGA-land. So I've tried to devise a parallel example--a press conference by a Trumpian NFL Commish.
Imagine, Trump supporting NFL fan, if you turned on your television and heard the NFL Commish saying these words. "Too many teams are taking punts on 5th down. From now on, linebackers can't stand in front of the punterback, & if you punt you can only have 14 guys on the field."
If an NFL fan heard the Commissioner of the NFL speaking those words they would yell at their TV "Who is this idiot? He has no idea what he's talking about? How on earth did he get this job, and when can we replace him with someone who understands how this works?"

Yesterday I did something I usually don't. I posted in response to a prominent politician's tweet. The responses it elicited from Trump defenders were notable in how similar they were. But these weren't bots. They were real humans who'd been catechized.
I use the term "catechism" advisedly, because it's often had an anti-Catholic inflection. That's not how I mean it. When I say these folks have been catechized by right wing media, what I mean is they've internalized an answer for everything.
The purpose of a catechism is not to ask open-ended questions with a range of possible answers, but rather to take the conclusion as assumed, and then equip the person being catechized with the proper way to respond to any potential counter-arguments or countervailing facts.

Some context for Ellen-GWB-gate. In an era when Ellen was doing important work to undercut homophobia, her new friend GWB was stoking it for political advantage. Has GWB acknowledged the real harm that caused LGBTQ Americans?
SCOTUS, on which sit two conservative GWB appointees, is about to make an important ruling that will likely (but hopefully not) negatively impact the lives of LGBTQ Americans. nytimes.com/2019/10/08/us/…
GWB was a key figure in the backlash against the gay liberation movement. He could choose to use his influence (as he did with the Kavanaugh nomination) to repair some of the damage he's done. AFAIK, he has not done that.

Some examples: The @nytimes actively encouraged the British to not open the gates of Mandated Palestine which would have allowed Jews fleeing Nazi persecution a safe haven since it might have furthered the goal of establishing an independent Jewish State there.
The Sulzberger family were major contributors both financially and in print to the viciously anti-Zionist American Council For Judaism. This support continued even after the establishment of the State of Israel.
