Reminder of what Labour manifesto said on Brexit (a short thread) #Marr 1/n
The Labour manifesto accepted the result of the referendum. It said quite clearly "Labour accepts the referendum result".
*But ...

It also opposed the terms the Tories were then proposing to negotiate for Brexit:

"We will scrap the Conservatives’ Brexit White Paper and replace it with fresh negotiating priorities that have a strong emphasis on retaining the benefits of the Single Market & Customs Union"

Boris Johnson's deal sets us even further back: it explicitly rules out the customs union that industry - business and unions - are absolutely emphatic that they want #Marr

And Boris Johnson's deal also specifically rules out legally-binding commitments on workers' rights and environmental standards #Marr

The Labour manifesto also ruled out 'no deal'.
"Labour recognises that leaving the EU with ‘no deal’ is the worst possible deal for Britain"
Which is why Labour backed the EU Withdrawal (No2) Act (aka the Benn Act)

So with no sensible Brexit on offer from the Tories (to respect the referendum and our manifesto) the options are:
1. Try to amend their deal (which we did in Govt talks)
2. Back a public vote so the people have the final say
And that's what subsequent Labour conferences backed

And Labour wants a General Election (once the threat of No Deal is off the table) so that we can secure a sensible leave deal and give the people the final say vs Remain #LetthePeopleDecide
