📣 IMPORTANT: The Dem POTUS candidates seem to be bogged down in a #M4All vs. #PublicOption debate...but EITHER of those would take several years to get passed, signed, implemented & ramped up. In the meantime, the #ACA itself desperately needs to be protected & strengthened. 1/
Robust #ACA2.0 bills have been introduced by both @HouseDemocrats (#HR1868 / #HR1884) *and* @SenateDems (#S1213, aka #CHIPA), and either of them could be implemented almost immediately upon signing.

Yet there's been little movement on either of these since last spring. 2/
Therefore, as we enter the 2020 #ACA Open Enrollment Period, I'll also be launching my next Big Wonky Healthcare Data Project: How Much Would #ACA2.0 Save YOU?

I intend on running the numbers & posting tables & graphs for EVERY. SINGLE. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. 3/
I also plan on providing examples of 8 different households:
--26-year old just off their parents plan
--40 year old
--50 year old
--64-year old just before Medicare
--30-yr old single parent
--40-yr old couple w/2 kids
--50 yr old couple w/1 college kid
--60-yr old retirees 4/
This is obviously a pretty ambitious project, so it's gonna take some time. I hope to post one state at a time. I have no idea how long it will take to get to them all...it could be 1 state per day or 1 per week. First up: My home state of Michigan!

Please stay tuned! /END
📣 UPDATE: AND WE'RE OFF! Let's see how much residents of #MI01 would save under #HR1868 compared to the #ACA today!

For #MI01, I chose TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN:

Here's two examples from #MI01 to give you an idea how big of a difference #HR1868 would make. First, a "Nuclear Family" (married couple with two kids): Under #HR1868, they'd save up to $6,000/yr if currently unsubsidized...and up to $2,100 even if they're already subsidized:
Second, here's a 60-year old married couple. If anyone wondered why it's called the #SubsidyCliff, here you go. Currently they'd have to pay up to 29% of their income in premiums, which is of course absurd; under #HR1868 it'd be limited to 8.5%, saving them nearly *$14,000/yr*.
I won't be posting these "cliff" graphics for every entry--they simply take too long to compile, and once you've seen a few you get the idea--but there will be some interesting cases. Watch this thread for future updates as I add more districts/states!
📣 SECOND MICHIGAN DISTRICT POSTED!

Let's see how much residents of #MI02 would save under #HR1868 compared to the #ACA today!

For #MI02, I chose HOLLAND, MICHIGAN:
