Family friends, neighbours, employers and other known persons accounted for 55% or 16,591 cases, the most among known offenders, followed by friends, online friends and live-in partners on pretext of marriage.
Rape by separated husbands accounted for 35% or 10,553 cases, & by other family members, 10% or 3,155 cases.
In only 7% or 2,260 of the 32,559 reported rape cases in 2017 were the offenders unknown or not identified
