For service, Tesla still has a lot of work to do. In 2018 it sold more cars than it had in the previous decade combined. The service infrastructure wasn’t ready for it, leading to long service delays and poor communication. It’s still a problem /3

In May, we started asking Model 3 owners about what it's like to own a Tesla, and they had a *lot* to say. We’ve crunched 500,000 words of feedback into four days of findings. Today is Part 1: Quality 1/ bloomberg.com/graphics/2019-…
First up: Tesla is getting better at making cars. Many early Model 3s were marred by defects, which peaked at 80 issues per 100 cars in Q3 2018. A year later, Q3 defects had dropped by 44%. Here’s a monthly breakdown 2/ bloomberg.com/graphics/2019-…
Most problems were on the exterior. The most common issues, perhaps not surprisingly, were paint defects, panel gaps, and scratches and dents. About 12% of owners reported some kind of paint imperfection 3/ bloomberg.com/graphics/2019-…

This @exxonmobile chart from 1982 predicted that in 2019 our atmospheric CO2 level would reach about 415 parts per million, raising the global temperature roughly 0.9 degrees C.

Update: The world crossed the 415 ppm threshold this week and broke 0.9 degrees C in 2017 1/

I stopped by the NY Auto Show last week to check out the EVs. Like everyone else, I was blown away by the @Rivian truck and SUV. Massive three rows with tons of cargo space, gorgeous interior, 400 mile range for <$100k (smaller batteries at start ~$70k). 0 to 60 in 3 seconds 1/
The iPace was great, inside and out, and Jaguar made it their signature experience, on a stage with small guided tours where they explained the car, and EV ownership, in great detail. Important educational work that more companies should be doing 2/
The Hyundai Kona was nice and seemed like a decent value. But for the same price, Tesla’s Model 3 is more compelling in almost every respect. The Chevy Bolt continues to fade, and the latest Nissan Leaf is solid but similarly failing to keep up in range+price 3/

Negative responses to our open-source $TSLA model focus on changes we made to PP&E and R&D while maintaining our price targets. Those responses highlight the short term time horizon of analysts in the public markets and their unwillingness/inability to model exponential growth.
Based on #Tesla’s stunning results year-over-year in the first quarter relative to the $GM Bolt - the Model 3 sales up 6-fold from a base more than 50% higher than the Bolt’s, while the Bolt’s sales were flat - $TSLA should go full throttle in EV production.
The shift in our model from spending from R&D to PP&E during the next five years is based on the demand metrics for #Tesla’s EVs that are surfacing around the world Check out not only the US but also Norway which the bears wrote off after subsidies lapsed last year.
