Don’t confuse charismatic theology w prosperity theology. Charismatic theology is thoroughly Biblical in its belief in a God who is dynamic & active in His world; and it’s Trinitarian in its inclusion of the Spirit’s agency & presence.
If an umoved, distant sovereign is your version of orthodoxy, then you’ll see anything else as heresy.
Prosperity theology goes wrong not in its vision of a dynamic, loving God who works for our good; nor in its claim that salvation shows up in material ways (there *will* be new creation & bodies that won’t decay!).
It’s fatal flaw— the distortion that makes it another gospel— is its lack of futurity. It wants everything now. And because it does, it places agency in our hands: our faith can activate these “blessings”.
In the dimensions of hope I outline in my research (grounds, object, agency, pathway, space, & time), prosperity theology gets the time wrong, & then the agency wrong, & thus misses the object of our hope (return of Christ, new creation & resurrection).
Charismatic theology is convinced that on the basis of Christ’s resurrection (grounds) & by means of the Spirit’s work (agency & pathway), miracles happen here & now as a signpost of new creation & resurrection (object & space) which will occur when Christ comes again (time).
