The Republican Party should not survive Trump. Nor should the so-called Christians who back his venality & criminality for power and personal advantage.
For all my admiration of Ronald Reagan and his principled approach that brought down the USSR, I'm far more critical of how he invited religiosity into US national politics. It's always a toxic result for both religion & politics.
I've often cited Goldwater on this, but his truly conservative views on separating faith & politics have been supplanted, as in so many areas in today's GOP. They have faith only in power, and today that means Trump.
