When jailed 8-14 days, People 51% more likely to commit another crime w/n 2 years after completion of cases than equivalent defendants.

Jail & prison is "criminogenic." Make ppl more likely to get rearrested. Undermines public safety. Primary characteristics of jail/prison--shame, isolation, economic deprivation, & violence--are same primary drivers of violence itself. Also marginalizes people: Lost jobs/housing.
