THREAD: How the Thomas the Tank Engine characters voted in the EU referendum.

THOMAS: Remain. Really likes the BBC's Brexitcast podcast and recommends it to everybody.
HENRY: Remain. Votes Lib Dem. Calls Corbyn supporters "cultists". Got a 24 hour Twitter suspension for telling Owen Jones to fuck off 3 times in the same hour.
PERCY: Remain. When anyone brings up immigration he stands up for freedom of movement but thinks he counts as an immigrant affected by Brexit because his great-grandfather was from Portugal. Makes absolutely everything to do with politics about himself.
GORDON: Leave. Still thinks calling Remain voters "Remoaners" is very very funny stuff.
JAMES: Remain but is refusing to vote in a second referendum because he is "sick of hearing about Brexit now". Still brings it up constantly just to say how sick of hearing about it he is.
MR TOPHAM HAT: Remain. Since changing his name he's really mellowed politically and can't believe he used to have the Twitter handle @Britain4theBritish69.
TOBY: Didn't vote. Thinks all politicians are the same. Claims to "not do politics". Complains about: bin collections, lack of police and price of council tax daily.
EDWARD: Remain. Campaigned for Remain and genuinely changed the minds of a lot of angry disenfranchised people who blamed the EU for their high street being boarded-up. Is very sad these days and misses the 2012 Olympics.
DIESEL: Leave. Voted Leave to be an edgelord and "piss off my fucking do-gooder sister and her virtue-signalling wanker husband". Votes Brexit Party. Lost factory job in 2011, benefits were cut in 2016, has had to move in to mother's spare room ever since.
BERTIE: Remain and very optimistic that we won't leave the EU in the end. Makes the joke about having a lie painted on his side probably too often these days, it's been a while and he should get a new joke.
DUCK: Leave and if anyone disagrees with him he just gives them an unwanted hug, really gets in their personal space, shouts over the top of them in a jolly voice. Says "we'll never know" about Prince Andrew.
DONALD & DOUGLAS: Donald voted Leave, Douglas voted Remain. They haven't spoken since late 2016 and their dad has told them both separately "this is killing your mother".
HAROLD: Leave and VERY embarrassed about it. Googled "is EU in Europe" the morning after the referendum.

1pm: WOWOWOWOW! Today is like Nige Christmas Eve! The Yanks are at the polling booths and I’m having my first beer of the day at 5am to celebrate. Don-Don’s been looking tired the past few weeks and I can understand why!
It’s like when I was running for Thanet last year all over again!!! You campaign, you get your message out there, you have a pint, you pick up a baby, you have a cigarette and a pint, you high-five a man who wants to get his country back and you have some pints.

THREAD: In January 2018 I went to the cinema with a guy I’d been getting on really well with in the cast of a musical. Here’s what went down.
Our cast all decided to go out for afternoon drinks on our day off. I was drinking with my colleagues for 7 hours until it was just me and Evan left. Here we are.
Evan is 6ft and drinks better than I do but I’d been matching him drink for drink LIKE A RIGHT LAD. He said he wanted to go to the cinema to see Three Billboards. I knew there was a cinema across the street! Off we went.

My memories end there.

THREAD: This is the story of THE WORST GIG I've EVER done.

NYE 2018. I posted on Facebook about what a fab year I’d had, donned my best lashes and set off for my last gig of the year: singing pop to 80 people at a pub in Essex. Easy, easiest of gigs and paying sweeeet dollar.
I arrived in good time, hair and makeup done, best lashes donned, just needed to set up my PA system and put on my heels. As I brought the PA system in to the pub I noticed odd decour…from the outside this place was a pub. But inside it was like a weird WMC.
There were framed pictures of people called the Grand Master or something, one of the Duke of Kent...it became clear to me that this was not a pub. It was a masonic lodge. This was a gig for freemasons. My heart sank.

Prediction: the 2020 London Mayoral Election is going to be an excellent demonstration of why the Supplementary Vote (SV) used for mayoral elections is a truly terrible electoral system.

Under SV, voters express a 1st pref and a 2nd pref - but no more.

If no candidate receives a majority of 1st prefs, all but the top two are eliminated, and the 2nd prefs of the rest distributed.

But if neither your 1st nor 2nd pref was one of the top two? No say for you!

Because SV only gives voters two preferences, voters need to have a good idea of who will be in the top two.

But right now, it's unclear who will be Sadiq Khan's strongest rival: Shaun Bailey? Rory Stewart? Siobhan Benita?

This could make it very hard to vote.

@RemainerNow - here is my story. Sorry for the #thread however, it's impossible to get this in one tweet. Firstly, and let's be 100% clear, Brexit was never, ever about immigration for me, quite the contrary - I'd like to see our immigration policies opened up...
however ever since an early encounter in my career at the Brussels Chambers of Commerce, I have been fearful of ever-closer union, and who was really behind that specific aspect of EU life. Most notably I recall a presentation from a then ABN Amro executive, seconded to the EU.
Discussing the merits of breaking down country borders, accessing markets for big business with resources to manage increased regulation and info on competition law which ultimately creates monopolies for multinational corporations. And this was pre the tech giants of today....

According to Transparency International @TI_EU, the lobby organisation that has held the most high-level meetings at the European Commission between 2014 and 2018 is @BusinessEurope.
