Its reach exceeded many major media outlets like Vox, USA Today, and the LA Times

And for many months, Facebook did nothing

The scam advised people to ignore their doctors and buy a $55 paperback book

@ScienceChiefAu As a non-scientist who occasionally reads public studies in the normal course of research for writing, picking winners among journal publishers hasn't had much of my attention. I have a couple reasons for this:
@ScienceChiefAu One reason is that it isn't my profession. For writing fiction, 'sounds good' is often enough to pass a reader's smell test to move a plot forward, for it is as much of what a character believes as true, as what a writer believes is true, that informs character development.
