The IOC keeps giving Russia chances, and Russia keeps pissing all over another line in the sand.
Folks in the West simply don't understand: Russians view sports as foreign politics. They only care about winning. "How" never enters the equation. "How" doesn't matter. Gold does.
I mean... You can give them 1000 more chances to clean up their act. It won't change anything. When the IOC says "stop cheating", Russian officials hear "stop getting caught."
IOC is far away. Putin is close. And Putin demands gold. All the time. Any cost.
Oh, and in case the whole "harass, threaten, discredit and silence the whistleblower" playbook seems unfamiliar, here is where it comes from.
Just as the NHL wants to honor Putin's No.1 fan with a regular season game in Moscow. Great move, #Caps!

You might think that Trump, being all like "Putin is great, Russia is great, let's do great shit with Russia and Putin", is pretty popular and well-loved in Russia. You might think Russians are of a very high opinion of him and respect him greatly.
Would make sense, no?
Well, funny thing, that. Russians certainly do appear to LIKE the fact that Trump is president. But that is all schadenfreude, my dudes. They like the fact that America has someone in charge who makes Putin look competent, wise, restrained, sane, serious and benevolent.

Senior US officials have told me they'd only consider taking the risk of breaking #Russia's air-ban on NW #Syria on 2 conditions:

a) A senior AQ figure emerged as clear target
b) External attack plotting was detected.

I'd treat these "US strike" reports w. some caution for now.
According to well-placed sources in NW #Syria, Huras al-Din figures have on [at least] several occasions raised the importance of re-asserting attention on attacking the West from #Idlib/#Aleppo.

That's a very unpopular proposition, so raising it speaks volumes re. confidence.
Overnight, @CENTCOM confirmed yesterday's strike on #AlQaeda's Huras al-Din in western #Aleppo.

Their reasoning confirms one of the two conditions U.S. officials had previously told me they'd need to break #Russia's air ban over NW #Syria: "plotting external attacks..."
