You might think that Trump, being all like "Putin is great, Russia is great, let's do great shit with Russia and Putin", is pretty popular and well-loved in Russia. You might think Russians are of a very high opinion of him and respect him greatly.

Well, funny thing, that. Russians certainly do appear to LIKE the fact that Trump is president. But that is all schadenfreude, my dudes. They like the fact that America has someone in charge who makes Putin look competent, wise, restrained, sane, serious and benevolent.
But if you watch any amount of Russian TV, it's hard to miss that their actual impression of Trump is, "Holy fuck, what a dolt!"

Most Russians share Trump's xenophobia, his distaste of minorities and his views of women. But nobody there thinks he is smart or a good leader or what Russians call "adekvatny" (which roughly translates as competent and level-headed). In short, he is a laughing stock.
So, that approval rating Trump is enjoying in Russia, his highest in any country in the world, is all about "Isn't it awesome America is going down the tubes?"
