High status occupations are not occupations which never complain about their status. They complain constantly about their status somewhere you can hear, and you don’t laugh at them for doing so.
When you hear someone complain about occupational status and think “Oh man those #*{*#* again”, you have identified a medium status occupation.

Complaints of low status occupations reach you essentially only if you’re a specialized researcher.
Thoughts informed by the ongoing discussion in the industry about engineering, which institutionally worries about its status precisely because it is a medium status occupation trending up.

This worry is subject to substantial status policing.
Because of current fashions in the corridors of power, gatekeepers criticizing engineers for not knowing their place will say they are punching up.
