Your ebook outlines a strategy that you call a “lockbox.” Can you take us through it?

The idea is that you segment your money. It’s similar to using “buckets” but with a time component. A retiree might have a box for 2020 and a box for 2021, and 2022, etc.
In each box, you have a combination of safe assets, such as an annuity or TIPS [Treasury inflation-protected securities], and a market-based portfolio, such as one with stocks and bonds.
You have the key if you need to access the funds, but the idea is that, once a year, you would sell the assets in that year’s lockbox. You put all your money in locked boxes to begin with, and you just happily open locked boxes

UK economy in worst spell since 2009 as all-sector #PMI signals further contraction. PMI rose from 48.8 in Sep to 49.5 in Oct, but declines have now been recorded in four of the past five months 1/
The Oct PMI indicates GDP q/q rate of fall of -0.1%, similar that signalled by in Q3. Official data are likely to have indicated more robust growth in Q3, the PMI warns that some of this strength reflects a pay-back from a steeper decline than signalled by the surveys in Q2 2/
Manufacturing remains in worst spell since 2012 while construction is in deepest downturn since 2009, with both in recession. Services meanwhile stagnated, improving on the decline seen in September but still suggesting that the sector is stuck in its worst patch since 2012 3/

1. An interesting thing about #services trade in the context of #Brexit is that we need to remember that services imports directly create jobs. Economists always like imports, but public debate focuses on jobs coming from exports. #Services are different. Let me explain why.
2. Under the GATS, when a foreign services company establishes a subsidiary in the UK and sells services to locals, that's an import of services for the UK under #Mode3. But to sell services to locals, the business needs to employ locals. So imports directly create jobs in the UK
3. Eurostat data shows that around 2.6 million service sector employees in the UK get their paychecks from foreign controlled companies. It's hard to get a break down of exactly how much of that is European, but it's far to assume that it's substantial.
