I'm watching TV over a DTV converter and having a very unpleasant experience where I believe that the station has applied 60hz interpolation to the source material, a war crime
they're running a charlies angels marathon or something so i've seen 3-4 eps of this show and all were normal 24hz like you'd expect, but the one they're running right now is definitely being upconverted. I'm positive the DTV receiver isn't doing it.
It hasn't done it on any other channel and it wasn't doing it on this one until this specific ep came on, so it seems to me that somewhere in the chain, whoever prepared this (presumably digital) broadcast copy decided to ruin it

these eps are in 16:9 which makes me wonder if the original 1976 footage was widescreen or if they slash-and-burn cropped it to avoid those dastardly, poisonous pillarboxes. Pillarboxes must be lethal, it's the only explanation for DTV

the vast sweeping majority of people in the world do not think that it is possible for really, really bad things to happen. you could show them a nuclear bomb with someones hand poised over a button labeled "DETONATE" and they simply would not agree that he might push it.

i think once in a while about how "medical" is a category for display technology, like medical-grade LCDs or CRTs, and how I don't really know why that is. Was thinking about it just now in the context of X-rays
My understanding is that reading X-rays is an incredibly precise skill requiring tons of experience and radiologists will basically point at an invisible variation in a print and say "oh they have a lung disease" with 80% confidence
If you viewed that image on an LCD that wasn't completely, 100% calibrated and linear, those variations could be completely lost. The variance in how consumer LCDs display images is extremely wide, even between identical models.

i think a lot about how hobbies very frequently require an enormous amount of capital expenditure to even get started and how frustrating it can be

#NowWatching Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut.”

Which is about half the length of the television series starting this weekend.
Snyder’s “Watchmen” has some very serious flaws; some of which are baked into the idea of adapting the comic, and some are down to Snyder’s aesthetic.

But it is a staggering accomplishment of production. It looks beautiful, the result of a lot of care and attention.
At the time, the textured production design on “Watchmen” was a breath of fresh air.

150 sets were built for the film, including an old style New York exterior. It’s lit and shot beautifully.

It has aged well, in an era where so many superhero blockbusters look interchangeable.

We now have details. Memos 1 & 3 were classified by Comey. He never took home copies of 1, 3, & 5.
He released 2, 4, 6 and a redacted version of 7.
After Comey left, the FBI classified small amounts of information in Memos 2 & 7 in June of 2017. SO he leaked the memos (1 redacted) before they were classified.

So we get to Hillary's 1st alibi, they weren't classified at the time!

1/ For those who don't know Peterson, he's a pre-Modernist thinker whose embrace of some mid-20th c. philosophical, lit-critical, and psychological dead-ends—an ideology frozen in the 50s—has made him a hero among the alt-right. He's part of the so-called "Intellectual Dark Web."
2/ Just as I'd have less problem with Bill O'Reilly if he copped to being a retrograde boor whose head as to key matters like gender equality and civil rights is stuck in the suburbs of his childhood—so we'd know to ignore him—Peterson's dangerous because he disguises what he is.
