Guten Morgen #36c3. Andy MM is talking about surveillance of Julian #Assange (and everyone in the near vicinity) at the Ecuadorian embassy in about 20 mins. "There is no good news in this talk," he says.
#Eliza is kinda full, good sign. #36c3
Andy's showing a bunch of unpublished surveillance footage in this talk. Much of it more exciting than this clip of a police car in Hans Crescent. #Assange #36c3
Andy giving us all a trigger warning: the only positive aspect of this talk is a clip of the cat. #Assange #36c3
Miscellaneous technical difficulties holding us up here. We may not have a livestream. Cue all the usual jokes about who might be responsible. #36c3 #Assange
Ok! Audio will be added to the livestream later. But we're off. #Assange #36c3
Andy starts w a disclaimer: this is an incomplete account of what went on. Julian #Assange's handwriting and sleep patterns were also analysed. And there are ongoing lawsuits around this surveillance. #36c3
Having said that, there's a lot to go through in this incomplete account. #36c3 #Assange
There were three distinct stages in the UC Global surveillance. Things got a lot worse in 2017, emails show that David Morales was travelling to the US a lot during this period. Surveillance gear in the embassy was upgraded in late 2017. #36c3
In April 2018, an Ecuadorian surveillance company Prom Security took over and operated under a formal Ecuador-US MLA. #36c3
The pre upgrade CCTV network (lower quality video, no audio) covered all the areas Julian #Assange was allowed to move into. #36c3
The Ecuadorian intelligence liaison in London was allegedly receiving 20k Euro per month to keep quiet about the modifications UC Global were making to surveillance equipment and procedures. #36c3
Standard operating procedure for dealing with visitors. Records kept and reports made became more detailed as time went on. #36c3
Here's the promised footage of embassy cat using the old, non audio surveillance footage. #Assange #36c3
Timeline of how third party access was implemented and equipment was upgraded in 2017. Morales would allegedly deliver original hard drives to the US every few weeks. #36c3
Visitor procedures were also changed during 2017. Visitors' voice prints over the intercom were taken.
Device interference also became more aggressive. This is @SMaurizi's stuff (images have been redacted)
Andy now showing a sample of the Dec 2017 footage. It's much better. That year UC Global did a thorough survey of objects in the embassy to see where they could pace bugs. Including in the bathroom.
Morales allegedly also explored if doors could be left open / unlocked in order to facilitate Julian #Assange's abduction and kidnap. This is a screenshot from a walk-through video allegedly prepared for that purpose. #36c3
Batteries in the hidden microphones lasted 12 hours 36 minutes. "We have a lot of audio recordings of this length." UC Global explored how they could place bugs in Julian #Assange's bedroom. Potentially through the walls of the ambassador's office. #36c3
Julian #Assange used a white noise generator and this was a "headache" for UC Global. But they found a counter counter measure. #36c3
Andy: these stickers on the window of the Ecuadorian embassy are still there. Permission has just been granted for these to be examined for the Spanish court case. #Assange #36c3
Andy: Julian #Assange's meeting with the head of Senain on his potential reassignment as an Ecuadorian diplomat was extensively spied on. "Surveillance does limit your ability to act." #36c3
Andy: further information is being collated at osint.info. I'll publish a full report at buggedplanet.info in the next few months. #Assange #36c3
Andy on civil suits v UC Global. More will follow, but the focus now is making the case watertight for the Spanish and UK extradition cases. #Assange #36c3
Andy: the scale of this illegal surveillance shows pretty clearly that this isn't a standard prosecution. This is a political campaign. #Assange #36c3
Andy notes that the handover of material left at the embassy to the US after Julian #Assange was arrested also appears to have been governed by the new Ecuador - US mutual legal assistance agreement. #36c3
