What we will get is sovereignty in theory but not in practice. The 'choice' of adopting EU laws will be whether we want our own businesses shut out from their main market - no real choice at all.
In the EU we had our representatives and officials writing the content of EU laws and voting on approving them. Outside the EU, we will only be able to choose whether we can bear the costs of not signing up.
The biggest myth around is that pro-Europeans don't want control and sovereignty. We do. We just recognise that the EU isn't going anywhere any time soon and believe that there is no substitute for actual political representation.
If the UK were physically located elsewhere then maybe this conversation would be different. But we're not. We can't stop the EU being our main market and can't pretend this won't result in us having to adopt EU laws, whether inside the union or not.
It comes down to this: when it comes to adopting EU laws, give me representation from an MEP, Commissioner and Minister who can influence the process from start to finish over an MP (or even whitehall official) who can only say yes or no, any day.
