thinking out loud about #WWIll in the #nigerian #tech space.
It all started with the then big boys of #innovation
with #ridehailing services. #Uber came into Nigeria and we realized taxis were not enough. whether it was because it was a popular international service

or because it had a good PR for representing your class or status, truth is #uber really did solve a problem. instead of walking to parks or bus stops looking for a taxi, your ride comes to you.
You have the right to choose what ride comes to pick you up based on your pocket

let's not even talk about convenience, the good Air conditioning that these guys used to offer during rides (not certain anymore) or the fact that it gave people the ability to have multiple jobs/sources of income once you have a vehicle.

Yeah, these were the early days of innovation for us. Quickly, #bolt (then taxify) was born to compete followed by some others (All more like copycats) , but then I believe true innovation began when Gokada decided to implement the same ride-hailing codes for motorbikes(#okada)

what was truly interesting about this was that #lagos state had placed a ban on motorbikes due to the many issues they caused on the road; rowdiness, disorderliness, accidents, etc. but Gokada knew motorbikes with engines above 200cc were not affected by the laws and #lagosians

were tired of the traffic and missed their bikes. So boom💥. gokada.ng gets funding, Max.ng followed and many others. This was #WWI . people had more choices. Uber was screaming safe convenient rides. The bikes assured speed and safety. The market

divided into two. popular divide surrounded: "I can't do bikes, they're unsafe" and "what's the essence of paying so much for an Uber ( all the car-hailing services are commonly referred to as UBER) and still getting stuck in traffic". Competitors died away and Uber and Gokada

reigned chiefly for a while, which just a few competing.
Long lives the King until the crown is wrested from his head! May 2019, Oride (operapay.com/oride). I can't really remember what was more projected, Opay or Oride, but now, we get the picture clearly.

yes, the bike fares were way cheaper, so we downloaded their app. we actually thought we were using them, if only we knew.🤣😂. Next thing, Ocar, Ofood, Obus and then we started memes, promoting them even more , for free....They got traction, more people got on board the app

then Gokada closed up for some house cleaning/ordering bit.ly/2Fkssb9 , and more people pivoted despite the complaints of the app functionality, and then it became all clear, the endgame was #OPayPays all along. The #fintech guys did not see this one coming. #WWII

But we can't even say they've taken over the #fintech market before the huge competition comes for them. I guess its Karma😂🤣🤣.Let's not bring interswitch , flutterwave and the others into this mix. Let's look at big brother from another mother, @palmpayapp

@palmpayapp It's a game of strategy, and I'm sure a lot has been learnt so far on how to kick out the competition. Who do you think would win #WWIII ? Transsion Holdings, mother to Tecno, Itel, Infinix, and more smartphones, as well as latest brother #palmpayapp, has to kick out Opay someway

@palmpayapp We know we didn't like pre-installed apps until @BoomplayMusic , and some people are still struggling to accept it. They have the numbers in devices but Opay has the audience awareness and attention, how do you think they would tackle this #battle ?

@palmpayapp #WildCard move I am toying with is to make Opay apps unresponsive on all Transsion holdings phone brands and flag them as malware🤣😂😂. Totally Illegal, I know!
Really interested in the customer acquisition/competitor takedown technique they'll employ. What do you think? #WWIII
