Observations show that fire weather seasons have lengthened across ~25% of the Earth’s vegetated surface, resulting in a ~20% increase in the length of the fire weather season on average globally

Paleo records also support increased wildfires during warmer periods. For instance biomass burning has increased with rising temperature over the past 1500 years

Future #wildfire risks grow with each added degree. To minimise growth in fire risk we must in fire risk we must stabilise the world’s climate with #netzero emissions and limit temperature increase to well below 2°C, or 1.5°C.

This is an excellent review of what the IPCC and more recent literature say about climate change and risk of wildfires.
It’s got some surprises ... for everyone ... THREAD ...
First, there is little doubt that human-caused climate change has influenced fire in certain regions, and this influence has been both detected and attributed in some places, Amazonia, Mediterranean, Scandinavia, Western N America ... ⤵️
Second, neither detection nor attribution has been achieved in other places, like Australia and Siberia.
Scientists expect such detection to occur in the 2040s and 202s respectively ... ⤵️

The @IPCC_CH is the most complete authority there is on #climatechange, includes no geoengineering in its models, because the systems proposed "face large uncertainties and knowledge gaps as well as substantial risks" geoengineeringmonitor.org/2018/11/ipccs-…
Oil and gas giants still include carbon capture and storage (CSS) in their models, which they claim will allow them to continue using #fossilfuels as long as they want, so long as CO2 can be sucked out of the air in 2nd half of 21st century energy-transitions.org/sites/default/…
