It’s the stuff of fiction.
There were five people at the meeting: Mathews, the property owner Luke Austin Lane, Jacob Kaderli, Michael Helterbrand and the undercover agent.
Eventually, they revealed they were planning a murder.
“What you’ve vilified them to be,” interjected Kaderli.
“Yeah,” Mathews said.
“Makes me wonder if they’re ever really prepared for that day to come?” Mathews said.
Mathews went on to say: “Any engagement in anti-fascist activity will carry the death penalty.”
The undercover agent would later learn Mathews and Lane had begun hatching a plan to murder a married couple they identified as anti-fascists.
But Mathews knew about the plot, and if they carried out the killings without him, he’d be able to link them to the crime.
Mathews now found himself in the crosshairs of the murder plot he helped hatch.
The group began meticulously planning and preparing for the murders. They decided to break into the victim’s home, shoot them dead, then burn it to the ground.
Mathews was arrested with two other alleged members of The Base Thursday.
Earlier today, the WSJ reported the men discussed traveling to an upcoming gun rights rally in Virginia where they could open fire on the crowd from multiple angles.
All of these details—and more—in tomorrow’s edition of the WFP.
