This #SundayMorning we're exploring the story behind the altered National Archives photo and why this is hardly the first and unlikely to be the last time the Trump administration attempts to alter history.

(2) This week, evidence emerged that the National Archives had blurred an image in a women's suffrage exhibit that was critical of Trump.

"Doctoring a commemorative photograph buys right into the notion that it's okay to silence women's voice & actions."

(3) This is hardly the first time the Trump administration has dabbled in rewriting history by doctoring photos

In fact, it began as early as inauguration when Trump intervened to have a National Parks Service photo altered to reflect a larger crowd size

(4) And it's not just about the incidents like Sharpiegate that are clearly done to stroke his ego or satisfy Trump's wounded pride.

It's also about much more serious issues that will have long term consequences.

(5) The most egregious of these, in my opinion, have been Trump administration efforts to remove language about climate change and to alter research into global warming.

These efforts pose a serious and imminent threat to future generations.

(6) There's also the insidious efforts to rewrite American history to reflect xenophobic perspectives and justify Trump's cruel immigration policies.

It's hard to think of anything more unAmerican than that.

(7) Recently, The Trump administration has also moved to change longstanding policies about access to financial forecasts and economic reports to control the narrative about stumbling jobs numbers and a faltering economy in an election year.

(8) There are also the constant attacks & harassment of the press. It's important to point out that these incidents serve a critical function for the Trump administration.

They encourage the American people to distrust legitimate sources of news.

(9) It's a strategy the administration leverages over & over. Trump's incessant lies are about more than his raging narcissism.

It's straight from the dictator's playbook on how to sow distrust of longstanding democratic institutions.

(10) As Banon put it, you "flood the zone."

And our press is particularily susceptible to it because of social media, outrage culture & the influence of capitalism on institutions that were once gatekeepers in our democracy.

Stay vigilant, folks.
