Question tonight is whether this was deliberate strategy to make Javid resign or whether No 10 genuinely thought rather lose his team than lose his job - as reported earlier, No 10 was hopeful he would take the deal
Now sources suggest that after the conversation btw Johnson and Javid when he said he wouldn't stay, a series of other figures from No 10 lobbied him to change his mind but he still refused
It didn't come all completely out of the blue, as per @PaulGoodmanCH not so long ago, the idea was around that he'd be asked to sacrifice his team to stay, and Javid had discussed what he would do if it happened

First big day in Brexit 2.0 - both sides setting out opening gambits this morning, PM determined to show leaving is worth it so after change rather than continuity, EU keen to protect its market - expect a lot of chest beating in next few weeks before real talks get down to it
PM going for deal like Canada has with EU and ministers reject idea they ll sign up to EU rules - important to remember notion of level playing field was agreed in political declaration - part of the divorce deal
And what does PM mean by this? ‘If we do not succeed, then our trade will have to be based on our existing Withdrawal Agreement’ - the WA includes UK following EU rules in the transition period and paying into the budget without a say

Corbyn expected to set out a bit more of process for his departure a bit later this morning, he doesn't intend to resign + plans to stay in place until leadership contest can be held which realistically may not mean a new Labour leader until April
But... NEC does have the power to decide to appoint an interim leader IF he changed his mind and resigned, and there is already pressure for him to do so, or an MP could try to gather support for a leadership challenge
Worth remembering in all of this, Corbyn supporters control the party machine at the moment and won't give that up without a fight - but they don't have an obvious candidate, especially as Laura Pidcock who some of them saw as successor lost her seat

One of the Brexit conundrums - what would constitute a "credible proposal" regarding the Irish border that looked different from either put forward so far? Unfortunately it looks different in London and Dublin / Brussels 1/
Conservative / Brexiteer view on Irish border proposals - either - if no-deal means border checks, then even a year or two of deal will be better than that - or - we're not putting up checks anyway, so up to the Irish, their border. 2/
Dublin / Brussels view on border - only close alignment in at least Northern Ireland prevents border checks, those are the rules. We might be able to find work-rounds in some cases, meaning UK less of rule taker, but not as general case. 3/

My company was raided. It should have been a straightforward matter. But the #MetPolice & #LBRUT forgot to seize my computer & came back to do a 2nd raid. The search warrant didn't permit a second entry, however, #LBRUT entered unlawfully

Complaints were then made to my MP #VinceCable. He liaised with the #Metpolice & #LBRUT. And then weeks later, the search warrant was completely changed & was passed off as the search warrant executed on the day of the raids.
