Awful to hear of #Streatham stabbings, which may be a terrorist attack though not confirmed.

Here is how to respond and not respond IMO.

a) Praise police, security and intelligence services who do heroic job and save many lives and stop many attacks but cannot stop all. /1
b) Do not engage in stupid conspiracies calling it a false flag

c) Do not as I have already seen blame it on #Brexit.

d) Do send thoughts and prayers to those who have been directly impacted by attack. /2
e) Do not spread and believe rumours about the #Streatham stabbings. Only share from verified and trusted sources, not a random @Twitter account or from trolls.
f) Do read carefully reports and aftermath of attack, to see what lessons can be learnt, but do not do this in aftermath.

g) Most attacks come from far right or Islamist extremists. If it comes from one of these sources read up on terrorism from these sources. /3
h) Do demonise all Muslims saying if #Streatham stabbings turns out to be Islamist extremist terrorist attack saying Islam is inherently violent.

Equally if turns out to be an Islamist Extremist terrorist attack don't pretend its Islamophobic to say it was an Islamist attack. /4
i) If turns out to be a far right terrorist attack do not demonise all white people. Equally though do not ignore the threat the far right poses and how it preys on radicalising young white people either in poverty or in broken homes with anger management problems. /5
j) Do especially if you live in #Streatham carry on with your normal lives.

Terrorism tries to make civilians live in fear We say no to that by carry on with our normal lives.

We are more likely to die crossing the road or when having a bath or shower. /6
k) Attend and promote gatherings bringing people together in aftermath of #Streatham stabbings. Groups like @LondonFaiths, @faithbelieforum, @AhmadiyyaUK, @FaithMattersUK, @TellMamaUK, @hopenothate are worth following to see what they are doing to bring people together. /7
L) Do not use the #Streatham stabbings, especially in the aftermath to make partisan political points when we will not have the full facts.

Issues like funding, prisons, counter-terrorism policy are all valid points to make but not in immediate aftermath. /8
Do look at groups and people who study counter-terrorism and radicalisation to see what experts are saying in aftermath of #Streatham stabbings.

They include @WasiqUK, @matthew_feldman, @HarasRafiq, @LegatumCommuni1, @CommissionCE, @TheSalamProject @hopenothate and more. /9
In summary do show empathy, don't jump gun, do educate yourself, don't engage in conspiracy mongering, don't live in fear, do work to bring people together, don't blame it on #Brexit, do listen to experts on deradicalisation & counter-terrorism, do praise heroes. /10
