Oh, a Red Tape Challenge. It's not like we could have had one of those in the EU... oh wait...we did. What was that called again?
Oh, yes: "The Red Tape Challenge".

gov.uk/government/new…
It resulted in a LOT of complaints about the Licensing Act and live music, and the main achievements were based on the fact most complaints were not around EU regulation.
Not that there weren't EU proposals. The government went to the EU Commission with these proposals and they agreed to fix the issues.
The EU have been running a similar campaign called "Lighten the Load" as part of their 'Refit' platform. It stopped at the end of October, but suggestions are still being taken for a future project 'Fit for Future'.

ec.europa.eu/info/law/bette…
The Commission have been taking suggestions from people for years. and it looks like they may have got the idea from our original Red Tape challenge.
But the Red Tape challenge in 2011 wasn't necessarily seen as a success. The response wasn't that high.
And as the article explains, in the 1990s we ran an initiative where trade bodies couldn't agree.
Now they are faced with arguing for a change which does make the regulation more efficient, but doesn't cover the additional cost of not having alignment.
This challenge would have been more effective in the EU, where we continued to be aligned, and the changes were made in 27 other countries, rather than at an additional cost.

Like the last time we did this.
Already this "Brexit red tape challenge" is inferior to the last one we had in the EU in terms of the fact any regulatory change is likely to come at an additional cost.
So if businesses really want to get together and "make Brexit a success", they should concentrate on the UK regulation and the gold plating that the UK has done on EU regulation, while not giving them any excuse to make trading conditions harder.
