One can sense a new Iron Curtain descending between the US and China. Like all historical comparisons the phrase is inexact. There will likely be no fortified borders. But a kind of "decoupling" is already being urged though no one seems to know what will entail.
Unlike the old Cold War the new one is over two global and incompatible standards jockeying for market control. For the moment both are likely to both compete and coexist on a common exchange level. But just as the CCP has long been building a walled garden so might the West.
It will not be about territory per se; armies of millions standing poised on frontiers. It will be much more virtual. The weapons of the age will be abstract and monetary. The new suitcase nuke will contain cash. The ICBMs will be financial instruments.
Most of the new Cold War will be fought in domestic Western politics. It was comforting to gaze upon the Russsian collusion threat because it was far too scary to acknowledge the real one from China.
