This is your daily pension announcement: if the truth isn't all there, it is a lie edition. Please, we are mobilizing the pension army reserves. Give the following article a read and then discuss among yourselves. #handsoffmypension #AbLeg #ABEd

A few comments: Travis can't be bothered that Bill 22 is facing serious challenges. He sticks to his strategy of not talking about pensions, ever. Instead, he sends out his long suffering press sec (Jerrica). Travis talks to reporters about pensions but only #offtherecord
#ABLeg
So the official position from Jerrica:

“Government contributes to each pension plan, and so Alberta taxpayers are partners and have a vested interest in the health of the plans”

Please use your critical thinking skills brought to you in part by Alberta Education™️ to evaluate.
Sure taxpayers are partners. Partners that make LESS THAN HALF THE CONTRIBUTIONS in the case of ATRF.

How about the other partners? You know the teachers? Jointly sponsored plan partners since 1939?
So one partner can act unilaterally to change the plan? #ABLeg
If Travis was going to be intellectually honest he would have said who the other partners were and maybe what their interest is.

Teachers are very interested in the health of the plan. #handsoffmypension #repelbill22 #ABLeg
Jerrica's next missive (on Travis' behalf):

"Government also pays the plans’ premiums and is responsible for plan liabilities, she said."

Sigh. Don't make me do this again. GOA pays half and in some cases less than half the premiums.
And, believe me, teachers too are on the hook for plan liabilities. GOA did not make timely (and legally obligated) contributions to the plan from 1957 until 1992. And, every active teacher in AB was on the hook for a portion of the liabilities. #repealbill22 #historyfortravis
So, Travis and Jerrica don't allude to other partners, name them. And, name their interest.

Straight from the UCP's national newspaper:

You can expect to see similar charm offensive pieces in other Post Media newspapers over the next several weeks.

It is a stupid idea for reasons I will go through over the next couple of weeks. (Mainly floated to distract from the @jkenney job killing agenda.) #recession #ABLeg
The media pieces will pop up seemingly at random as if they were a groundswell of support. Don't be fooled it is well planned out.

Back to @nateglubish who said:

"That the private sector would never make any money if they had to fund expensive public sector pensions."
@nateglubish has teachers' pensions mixed up with his own retirement savings plan. Teachers put in a $1.05 for every $1.00 that GOA puts in. For every $1 that Nate puts in his RRSP the GOA puts in $4.5. #letthatsinkin #ABLeg
#igottagocalmdown
Public sector pension plans are no more expensive than DC private sector plans (which typically include dollar matching contributions up to 13% of pay). But, get this, DB plans have far better outcomes for workers because of low cost access to excellent investment management.
