@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (1) if u look closely, it was primarily graduates who left for USA - and they had already been processed through the colonial and continuing post-colonial education system that has yet to be fact-based or unbiased.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (2) in late 19th/early 20th - science grads wr still not entirely detached frm philosophical exposure, most wr conversant in Sanskrit if not always Persian - so they had independent access to alternative textual sources, often had elders in families steeped in Hindu knowledgebase
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (3) the late colonial and post-colonial edu accelerated the process of deconstruction of "Hinduism" in every possible way, and redesigning streams to focus on "pure science/tech". Loss of sanskrit/persian exposure meant students wd be suitably blind to historical sources.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (4) the first step in destroying a cultural continuity and awareness of alternative narratives is disjunction of the language of older/native sources from new entrants, and then constructing and imposing a value system that demonizes the older narrative.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (5) Gandhians in power, followed this very imperial British strategy as they needed to suitably construct a narrative of independence struggle that reinforces the minority, "trusteeship" ldsrhip format and saw the "majority" Hindu basis of the new nation as a threat to that model
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (6) thus those more inclined to logical deconstruction - the science grads were deprived of the tools that wd have alerted to them to whats going on, and the less logically but more opinion framed "humanities" cd be moulded more easily to support the new narrative.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (7) science graduates in US were not entirely free from the narrative either, as US has its own dominant ideological interests in denigrating or at the least devaluing "Hinduism", so it wdnt encourage the "corrective" process by distance (from India) either - academically.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (8) in spite of that I saw the first reactions emerging from the science grads in US itself - first because of greater freedom of access to material, second because of training to use logic systematically, third because they were not subject to the conditioning in humanities.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (9) there has been steady increase in the US (as in Eur) of academic elite's recognizing the threat of uppity brown pagans reasserting "Hinduism" and thereby challenge the comfort zone of assumed automatic "Anglo-sphere" control over thought process in India.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (10) this in turn has shown up vastly increased activism and networking by "western" academics, especially humanities but with some overlap in sciences too - to lend strength to Indian and allied western humanities "academic" ppl - against any sign of "Hindu" assertion.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (11) I hv been told many times in private friendly chats (it made me realize why there is so much pressure to reveal identity) on what needs to be done to control this "Hindutva" menace& why it is a danger to "western civilization"- of course all on suitably falsified "facts".
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (12) I have a precarious navigation here, as I can't counter too much as I will lose the inner "ear" into how things are planned and executed. But I do probe with "innocent" questions and the reaction of utter fury tells me the sheer political/ideological hatred they have.
@LenteCurrite @IamSourav_b @sarkar_swati @maidros78 @HinduAmericans @HinduAmerican @neha_aks @sankrant (13) so when we blast Hindus abroad, we must consider that yes they hv aspects to be blamed, just like other hindus at home, but that both work under tremendously persistent state level and society wide institutional hostility and pressure. We are not there yet, but we will.
