FYI after feedback from informed eyes, I believe the "epi wave 2 months" refers to the length of the "epidemic wave", meaning these estimations are for total cases in the US, not just cases over next 2 months. Still quite disturbing.

There are 5 big changes since the old cleantech bust days:

1) broader definition of clean / climate tech
2) technical developments that make more things possible
3) employee preference changes
4) consumer preference changes
5) investor preference changes

Why now is different 👇
1st we've realized there are many good ways of attacking the climate crisis w/ tech. What was in the old days biofuels & renewable hardware is now: food tech, clean chemicals, transportation, renewable hardware & software, industrial decarbonization, etc

There have also been infrastructural technology advancements that make more possible. The easiest to see: cloud infrastructure has made more climate issues (especially around more efficient energy use / distribution) addressable with pure software.

With this round they'll build the first U.S. production plant for cultivated meat. THIS IS HAPPENING and sooner than most thought.

Memphis Meats is bringing needed innovation to an industry where the core technology hasn't changed much since we started domesticating animals over 4,000 years ago in Mesopotamia.

Not many industries are using the same technology as 4,000 years go!

People don't think about it this way but functionally humans use animals as production technology to convert plant-protein inputs (the grains & grass they eat) into outputs we like to consumer (meat, milk, etc).

There's a # of problems with making these products this way.

We want to create a revolving door VC firm.

We want founders to join our team, spend a few years helping support other founders, leave to start their next thing (we'll even put up the initial $$), and then we want them years later (succeed or fail) to come back.

Everyone on the @fiftyyears team is a former founder, so we naturally have high empathy for the founder journey. But the more time we spend on the investing side, the more disconnected we'll be from the founder experience.

3) And yes, the estimate above uses a conservative CFR estimate for mortality of just 0.5%, which is much lower than WHO’s 3.4% this week. Other experts peg the CFR is 1-2.5%. But the model also assumes no PH control measures to lower R to a smaller R(effective) value #COVID19

Wrong! The vast majority of Intel people analyze information from one entity such as Human Intel on the ground in Saudi, as an
3) example and pass this information along with their analysis i.e. best, most educated guess as to the meaning and what we should/could do about the situation. It’s an art and nowhere close to an exact science. I had access to classified info. Neato.
