1/4. The claim that Critical Theory helps us discern failings in society & therefore is useful is no reason to use CT or allow it into the ch. The true facts it cites are detachable fr CT itself. A theory is not made true by citing facts that can be known apart from the theory.
2/4. For example: It is true that 1) many white Southerners practiced slavery prior to the Civil War & 2) the slavery they practiced is evil. But a lot of people knew those 2 facts long before CT was invented in the 20th C. In fact so many knew them that the Civil War happened!
3/4. So clearly it is not necessary to use CT to know these facts. If one points to intersectionality as an insight, I would say this. A single mother has a hard job, but it is made worse if she is poor & even worse if she is a racial minority. All true.
4/4. But does anyone really need a fancy-pants Harvard law school professor to tell us that? (like Derrick Bell, founder of critical race theory). I don't think so. We don't need CT or CRT to identify sin in society. We need the HS to break down our tendency to self-justify.
