Aylward says the lessons to take from China are not the draconian measures to restrict public life.
He points out that only a few cities had strict lockdowns.
The vast majority did not.
Instead, they "really went back to fundamentals of public health."
-ramping up testing capacity to identify cases
-isolation measures for those who are sick
-contact tracing for all close contacts
-prohibiting mass gatherings where clusters were occurring
-major restrictions on movement when there is significant community level spread
