I wanted to provide you all w/an update on actions the State of CA is taking to contain the spread of #COVID19—

Gov. @GavinNewsom has issued an executive order requiring the cancellation any gatherings of 250+ statewide. This supersedes local measures allowing larger gatherings.
In addition, @GavinNewsom’s executive order:

- Waives the one-week waiting period for people who are unemployed and/or disabled as a result of #COVID19.

- Delays the deadline for state tax filing by 60 days for individuals & businesses unable to file on time due to COVID-19.
The executive order also:

- Allows local or state legislative bodies to hold meetings via teleconference and to make meetings accessible electronically

- Allows local and state emergency administrators to act quickly to protect public health

In addition to the Governor’s executive order, @CAPublicHealth has released updated guidelines for schools, colleges, and any hosts of large events.

We must all take appropriate precautions to keep our loved ones, coworkers & neighbors safe—esp. those at highest risk—amid this unprecedented public health threat.

If you’re sick—please heed health officials' calls to stay home.

Last yr, the Violence Against Women Act expired—& the House passed its reauthorization *290* days ago. Sen Republicans have blocked it.

In those 290 days, an estimated:
- 496 women were shot & killed by partners
- 5.3M kids exposed to domestic violence
- 22 trans people murdered
During the 290 days Sen Republicans have blocked #VAWA—100s of Native American women & girls were murdered or went missing—but we don't know just how many.

This is frightening & insane—“A bill to ban abortion introduced in the Ohio legislature requires doctors to ‘reimplant an ectopic pregnancy’ into a woman’s uterus – a procedure that does not exist in medical science – or face charges of ‘abortion murder.’—theguardian.com/us-news/2019/n…
“An ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition — where an embryo implants on the mother’s fallopian tube rather than the uterus— rendering the pregnancy unviable. It can kill a woman if the embryonic tissue grows unchecked. Ohio’s—is one of the most extreme bills to date.”
While Ohio & other states pass illegal & inhumane abortion bans—attempting to control our bodies & force us to carry all pregancies to term—California welcomes *all* women w/open arms & this message of hope:

Abortion is legal here, and you *will* be safe.

Here’s our sorry excuse of a president—the President of the United States of America—on Russian state TV calling Vladimir Putin “a great guy.” He’s a dictator who rules w/impunity, oversees terror campaigns against LGBTQ+ ppl, & attacked our democracy.
It comes just a day after the son of our president — accidentally gave away the game, when he posted this vile tweet about Senator @KamalaHarris during the Democratic Debate. He then deleted it, but not before observant watchdogs figured out it was an aggressive bot campaign—
.@RVAwonk did yeomans work uncovering just how quickly the message @DonaldJTrumpJr shared ab @KamalaHarris had spread. It spread through a network of fake @Twitter accounts. The same vile, hateful msg.

A back-of-the-enveloppe thread on the spread of #COVIDー19:

1) HUBEI province (ca 60 million people) has had close to 3000 deaths. It still has an active caseload of ca 20 K patients & some 130 new cases a day, & ca 30 daily deaths. So I expect up to 3500 deaths, assuming...1/9
...a winding down of the epidemic there by end March. If,stress IF, the rest of the world became like Hubei (0.8%of world population), the death toll could be of ca 400 K with a cumulative number of cases of ca 8 million.This possibly sets the outer bounds of a Covid pandemic 2/n
Of course, active measures in the world may prevent Hubei-scale outbreaks so this is unlikely to happen (conversely, late but tough measures in Hubei have also limited Covid's spread in that province).

2) GOOD NEWS though in rest of mainland China ( minus Hubei, HK,Macau): 3/n

Picking up from yesterday:

As stated before:

Finally authorities are putting Mazandaran province on quarantine: only fuel and food trucks are allowed. This late, its effectiveness will be limited.

The same authorities have had argued for quarantine to be "non-scientific" and "from middle ages".

My uncle just tested positive for the coronavirus. He lives in Venice, CA.

I’ve not been in direct contact with him, so we are not at risk from him, but I want to relay how the health department has managed his case. #COVID
He was skiing in the Italian alps with 6 other guys. 4 of them, including my uncle, now have the coronavirus. One is in a coma. two are sick, and my uncle has not presented any symptoms as of yet. He self-quarantined and called the health department. #COVID
A few days later they tested him and yesterday he found out he’s positive. Meanwhile, they’ve told my aunt to wear a mask, stay 10 feet away from my uncle, and otherwise she is free to move about the community. And, she has — to grocery stores, the hair salon, etc. #COVID

I gathered some alarming information on the rise of #COVID in Iran in this thread. I can see that it has been read by many hence increases my responsibility on what I share now.
As I stated before:

- I am not a trained reporter or journalist
- I am not based in Iran
- Not affiliated with any poilitical group, for or against the government
- Most of my information comes from the internet with occasional conversations with people in Iran

•This month Trump finalized the creation of Space Force as our 6th Military branch
•This month Trump signed a law to make cruelty to animals a federal felony so that animal abusers face tougher consequences

06/01/2019 - 78 years ago today, the longest-serving #UnitedStates #President, #Franklin D. #Roosevelt (#FDR) addressed the 77th #Congress with his "#Four #Freedoms" speech with the intent to shift #US #foreign #policy from that of #neutrality to #interventionist.
#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.
