We took a look at this dataset of banned Nigerian IRA-associated accounts that Twitter released yesterday. Others have already written about the content and apparent mission of these accounts; this is focused on mechanics.

Of the 71 accounts in the dataset, only 61 appear to have actually tweeted. This operation seems to have been carried out almost exclusively via the Twitter Android app; most of the activity is from July 2019 onward. Several of the accounts are substantially older. 
The folks operating this network do not seem to have taken time zones into account in their efforts; the aggregate tweet schedule of the 61 accounts that actually tweeted is far more aligned with West African time than any US time zone.
Finally, although little automation was used by this network, there is an interesting exception. One of the aged accounts (name is redacted, appears in the dataset as @5Y4MHq7eQsN5F9zHBAafMTXlr5jBjfi17+epzwtc2SY=) posted spammy follower growth tweets via a variety of custom apps.
