First: Big money media, and that's anything AD driven as well as well funded organizations of any kind, WILL NOT FUND THE CHANGE WE SEEK.
Second, Bernie has told us this clearly, this is US against everyone else, and they have big money.
More
We are going to have to fund our politics. There are no alternatives that do not involve significant unrest.
And it may come to that, but this is about media first.
It must be self-funded like the Sanders campaign is.
Being a leftist in the US will cost us each month.
Member / reader funded media can work for us. It can hire writers that can write for us.
There are a few successes. TYT is one way to do it. There are others.
For that to be possible, there must be enough recurring support for people to have careers in leftist politics.
A leftist media entity cannot allow itself to become dependent on big money. This comes in the form of distribution terms, ADS, investments.
Loans can make sense, given they can be paid off with no future obligations.
This means mixed model media must be...
...able to fund it's operations, keep the lights on, and do so without needing outside capital, or recurring AD revenue.
These are the levers that control the dialog.
These are how a phone call shuts important people down.
Again, looking at Bernie for a moment...
...is important!
Notice how they just can't make a phone call to donors and get him to step down, or compromise, or otherwise play ball?
He gladly works for us. That's why.
This same lesson is true for media entities. Where there are dependencies, powerful people...
...can make a call, call in a favor, pull ADS, and influence what people get to understand.
Because of all that, our leftist movement, call it progressive, social democracy, whatever, is on US. We are IT, plus a few good people in office right now.
(who also need support)
Medicare For All, as an example, will not get the discussion it needs. Despite that, we've done a great job informing the people about how important it is.
What we have done so far won the policy discussion, but it cannot yet take power, more fully emerge.
Because we have won that discussion, you can count on changes next year. What access we do have via somewhat friendly platforms, Twitter, YouTube, will be changed to work away from us, limit things, keep us from really competing with the older viewers, the base.
There are millions of us right now. It's possible for most of us to give some small amount monthly toward media, our advocacy, education, campaign arm.
Bernie has managed to do a lot while running for President.
When that finally ends, and he cannot do more books...
...issue rallies, events, and such, what we have right now, the size of it, what it's about, and all that will fade as big money seeks to push us to the margins again, forcing a rebuild.
I cannot understate this enough: We are too big to allow to endure.
And that's why we
need to begin to build out our media right now, while we can still promote it via the channels and the Sanders campaign.
Doing it without those things can still work, but will take time, and more money.
Decade timescale.
Should someone be able to do this now?
We enter next year able to execute on Sanders theory of change whether he is POTUS or not!
And that theory of change means strong social pressure brought to bear on our opposition along with primary challengers with real teeth.
Doing these things is possible
Possible on the donation scale we are currently on with Bernie.
And because we will have done it ourselves, when we get more power, removing money from politics will actually stand a chance of happening, because we won't have needed big money to do it.
Literally everyone else needs that money, needs the grift, needs the free Media, the ADS, all of it.
We do not, and we must grow, and I believe a strong media entity representing us, the people, is how we do that and do so in a way that is potent and can endure.
Anyone reading. Write about this. Rip, mix, burn. Run with it, run where you can, to anyone, everyone capable.
It needs to be done and millions of us don't care how, just that it is done, and is about us, not big money.
That is all.
