Ok, while everybody is talking about #China, #Russia or #Cuba in the context of #coronadiplomacy, let's take a closer look at #Turkey. Who received Turkey's help? What did it consist of? Thread.
So it seems, naturally, that China was the first one to receive Turkish help in February. It consisted of: medicines, medical mascs, googles and gloves. Also in February 🇹🇷 evacuated from 🇨🇳 - in addition to the Turks - citizens of 🇦🇿, 🇦🇱 and 🇬🇪.
Then, in the first half of March, 🇹🇷 sent help to Bulgaria. According to @DailySabah 🇧🇬 "bought 50,000 masks, 100,000 protective garments and 100,000 safety goggles from Turkey". According to @anadoluajansi, 🇹🇷, together with Turkic Council countries, sent aid also to Hungary.
The agency quoted 🇭🇺 FM who claimed that they had received "eight tons of material to be used in mask production" (whatever it is). Naturally, also Iran was a country that received Turkish help: testing kits, protective clothes, googles, mascs etc. The help came around 17 March.
Then, 21 March, VP Fuat Oktay claimed Turkey had sent an emergency aid to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Reportedly it consisted of 72 mln TL (as far as I understood, this is just a first installment). At the same day, president #Erdoğan assured Mahmoud Abbas that 🇹🇷 would
help Palestine (the details about amount and content seem unknown as of yet). What we know, however, is that 🇹🇷, 24 March, sent help to Colombia. It consisted of 26000 test kits. What we also heard is that few days earlier 🇹🇷 decided to help the United States. It reportedly sent
500 000 test kits. Since it is probably the most know case of Turkish help - not only because the Turkish press bragged about it for few days, but we also heard comments from 🇺🇲 that are tough to verify - I'll say just one thing. It is interesting that 🇹🇷 decided to send such a
strong signal of help to the 🇺🇲. Haven't figured it out yet whether this was simply a sign of solidarity with a country which response to the coronavirus is terrible or a way to show the electorate "hey, now this is us who help them", but this is definitely meaningful. Ok, let's
get back to the reports. Also Kosovo, 20 March, asked for 🇹🇷 help (no details yet and yeah I know I somehow got lost in chronology, sorry for that). Very recently, 29 March, Turkey helped one Filipinian village thorugh IHH who distributed 500 packets with food. I decided to
separately mention activities of Kızılay. As far as I can see, the Kızılay helped the KRG by sending 30000 masks and Indonesia (desinfection of mosques). Help was also received by Yemen (cleaning materials) and, this week, by Italy. Few days ago president Erdoğan mentioned that
Turkey sent "necessary materials" to 17 countries. I definitely wasn't able to list them all, so please feel free to fill the gaps. I'll also continue to observe 🇹🇷 #coronadiplomacy and try to came up with some conclusions when this #coronamess will be over.
Oh, I almost forgot. #Turkey also bragged off about "the biggest evacuation operation". Here you can see an infographic prepared by @anadoluajansi. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find an English-language version.
Yeah, I knew I missed something. Also Tunisia asked for 🇹🇷 help. It seems the details will be agreed on shortly.
I missed this. So it turns out that 🇹🇷 tests to the U.S. are not existent. Conclusions will be even more interesting.
And president Erdoğan has just mentioned that 🇹🇷 will send medical equipment also to Spain.
Here is an interesting example by @DailySabah. #Coronadiplomacy in propaganda (#coronapropaganda?) for the new international order: dailysabah.com/politics/news-…
