Tips for moderate to severe #coronavirus from a survivor.
1. Don’t wait, get help. Call a professional
2. Take control of your care, don’t settle for no
3. Know your “red line” and when 2 goto ER
4. Have some1 with U until it passes. Don’t do it alone
5. Rest, & get up and move
6. keep a running log of your symptoms. At least a sentence a day
7. Zinc seemed to help
8. Humidity helps on “those nights”
9. Menthol seemed to help
10. Get an inhaler
11. Get a pulseox, blood pressure cuff, and no touch thermometer
12. Use a CPaP if you have 1 in the house
Tip 1. get help. I made a mistake here. I didn’t respect #corona as much as I should have. At day 7 and 13 I should have gone to the ER. I called a PA that I trust and took her advice. I would have gone if she said to. Call someone if you don’t want to goto ER. But CALL SOMEONE
Tip 2. It’s your care. The Dr’s are amazing but they will be busy. They are going to help the once’s who need it most. Know what you want them to do, and don’t stop until they do it. Maybe it’s get an inhaler or something, but know what you want from them and then be insistent
Tip 3. Know your “red line”. Your body is talking to you, listen. My red line was uncontrollable symptoms, a pulseox under 93 or I felt faint. Know yours and get help when you cross it. Set a rule for you and do it, no questions just do it. I messed up here and could have died.
Tip 4. Don’t be alone. If it’s someone else who is sick, or someone who has recovered, don’t be alone. If things get bad, someone needs to be there to get you help. It can hit like a tsunami or creep up, so don’t be alone. At least have someone local on speed dial, and CALL THEM
Tip 5. Rest. Sleep will be hard and you will want to just lay there. DONT. Get up and move. Walk around, go for a walk (but avoid people). I would clean the living room, for as long as I could. It was hard and I don’t know why, but it helped. But also rest. Find a balance
Tip6. Keep a log. When you goto the ER or triage site you will be one of many. Being able to tell them that “5 days ago I got sick. I had a fever of 101 and a cough yesterday...” it really helps them. It also helps you, so you can see where you have been and where you are going.
Tip7. Zinc. We were out of zinc on day 1-8. my family took it, becaus usually I don’t get very sick and flus/cold are worse for kids. My wife improved faster then I did and the Lows weren’t as bad. My kids got better fast. I can’t say for sure this helped, but I feel like it did
Tip8. humid heat. On “those nights” I would turn on the shower and sit in steam for hours. When that ran out, I would boil water and and put a towel over my head with my face over the water. It helped. Dry heat also helped but I didn’t have a good way to do that.
Tip9. Menthol. My wife put up defusers with menthol in it. It seemed to help. I would put my face right in front of it and sit there. I usually did this interchanging with the boiling water. Combined they helped. It’s hard to know what helped but all combined seemed to.
Tip10. Get an inhaler. I had one in my house. It may have saved my life. Some times it was so bad I couldn’t even get the inhaler to work but I would use it right as the bad times started and then go to the steam or defuser. It usually took all three for any relief.
Tip 11. Medical Supplies. I bought a pulseox and BP cuff about half way through. It was huge (thanks to who ever recommended that). This made a huge difference in my ability to home care. If I would have had it to start, I bet I would have gone to the ER on bad night 1 (day 7/8)
Tip12. Use a CPaP. I had one in my house. On day 14 I started using it. My symptoms were not stopping no matter what I did and I was minutes from my red line. A CPAP helped enough to control my symptoms with the other things & helped me turn the corner + make it through the night
My final tip. DONT WAIT! GO GET HELP. Don’t make my mistake. When your body says something is wrong, listen. Don’t think U will “force of will” your way through this like a cold or flu. For most people it’s not bad and it is like a cold/flu, but if you need this advice, get help
My hope is that someone who needs this, sees it. This is the info I wanted when it first started
