1. My dear Jil, it’s a desolate world. And everything we held dear, everything we thought was important has suddenly lost significance. #Letr2Jil
2. We thought we couldn’t do without clubbing and parties. As it turns out we can do without them. #Letr2Jil
3. We thought weddings had to be prohibitively expensive, that we couldn’t do without unaffordable receptions. But our halls are now empty. We could have simple weddings after all. #Letr2Jil
4. We thought work was too important and that it came at the expense of family. But now we can’t even go to work. We’re all working from home. #Letr2Jil
5. We thought travel was so important. We even defined our value by air miles. Some are platinum, some are gold, some are silver. But now nobody can travel. Everyone is grounded. #Letr2Jil
6. We thought children were a bother. Men in particular thought they could solve parenting by financing needs in the family. Turns out they were grossly mistaken. #Letr2Jil
7. We thought our spouses were a bother to us, saw them as utilitarian post-nuptial irritants. Turns out they’re our primary source of comfort. #Letr2Jil
8. We thought family was less important than attainment. But it soon turns out family is everything, and that when the chips are down we will all return home to that same family. #Letr2Jil
9. We thought eating out is what makes us special – all that cosmopolitan stuff. But Corona taught us the family meal is what makes us truly special, it’s what makes us who we are. #Letr2Jil
10. We thought God was unimportant, that we have evolved beyond religion. But our calamity has forced us to look heavenward. From whence shall our help come? #Letr2Jil
11. We thought money immunizes us against everything. And so we fought, we stole, we bit, we elbowed, just to have financial immunization. As it turns out Coronavirus is no respecter of means. #Letr2Jil
12. If there’s nothing to take away from this plague, it’s the fact we’ve lost our way and are mistaken in our priorities. #Letr2Jil
13. In our perverted wisdom we substituted the things we really can’t do without with the things we can do without. Things like family, friendship between a man and his wife… We substituted these for inanities. #Letr2Jil
14. At the end of the day there’s nothing like family. At the end of the day there’s nothing like the love between a man and his woman. #Letr2Jil
15. We need to repair our homes, repair our relationships. We need to repair our marriages, repair our bond with our kids. #Letr2Jil
16. Life is not what we thought it was. And we thought we knew. We saw life as this mechanical contraption. It’s characterized by the machines we climb to take us from place to place, from coast to coast. #Letr2Jil
17. As our conveyances are so became our relationships - mechanical. We related to people mechanically. Men and women became algorithms, nothing more than a picture we like on Facebook. #Letr2Jil
18. It’s why we hurt people on social media, like they have no feelings. Look at the disrespect we heap on ourselves. Look at the bullying on Twitter, as if people cannot be destroyed, as if they’re machines. #Letr2Jil
19. We created a mechanical world we cannot live in. The more machines we created the more dehumanized we became. #Letr2Jil
20. We progressed to breaking up relationships by text, as if the other person is a robot. We lost all feeling, became inhuman. #Letr2Jil
21. We became as uncaring as those machines we invented, the ones that take us from place to place, that facilitate our inability to sit down and consider life. #Letr2Jil
22. And now death stalks humanity. An angel of death has the sword drawn. Suddenly we’re sober. Death has a sobering effect on humanity. All the nonsense has stopped. #Letr2Jil
23. It was so bad some didn’t even know how to relate to their family anymore. Work took that away, business took that away, deadlines took that away. #Letr2Jil
24. And now we’re faced with a true dead line in Coronavirus. All our deadlines no longer matter. #Letr2Jil
25. Coronavirus is the reset of humanity. It is the reset of our emotional and mental states. Now we know the things that matter. #Letr2Jil
26. And now it seems so strange Daddy is at home. And it feels strange Mummy and Daddy are talking to each other and not past each other. Daddy and Mummy are actually having a conversation! #Letr2Jil
27. And now daddy can truly see how beautiful Mummy is. Daddy can now see true beauty is of the heart. And that Mummy is kind, loving, forbearing and sacrificial. #Letr2Jil
28. And now Mummy can see how wonderful and responsible Daddy is, how dedicated he must be to his family. #Letr2Jil
