So, Cuba.

IMO? One more sad example of Russians trying to 'right' perceived wrongs with a twist of James Bond villainous irony.

What we know? US and Canadian diplomats, symptoms indicating some sort of targeted concussive energy, accompanied by reports of loud noise.

Not everyone in the same room impacted in the same way, to the same degree. Positional variation.

Now, I'm not going to get into my theory what of happened here, as I don't want to give ideas to any other hostile nation states/actors...

Although I will say that the victims probably should be asked about what and where they ate in the days preceeding the events...

the position they sleep in, check any urine or blood samples from around that time for ferric/AOS & oxidized abnormalities...

and avoid magnetic fields until the cause is elucidated.

But that's not my point here.

Instead, I'm going to talk about what triggers the little Chekist snowflakes more than anything else: weakness.

Specifically, strategic & military weakness; an event that left Russia running home w/rudders between their legs: the Cuban Missile Crisis.

And no, "SOSUS" was not a reference to Dean Rusk, then Secretary of State.

SOSUS was an acronym for the US Navy's "Sound Surveillance System" - a network of undersea sensors that leveraged the physical properties

of the propagation of sound in ocean waters to find the position, size, direction of travel and activity of objects in the ocean.

Basically, SOSUS was an underwater array of passive SONAR listening devices, allowing the Navy to find enemy ships without the pings...

that would otherwise alert the captains of those vessels they were being surveilled.

Quiet. Secret. Effective.

And led to great shame and humiliation, not just among the captains of Russian B130s on team Anadyr...

undoubtedly forming one of the earliest memories of national shame for the 10 year old son of a Russian Naval submariner,

a young boy named Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

Now, his father was injured by Nazis in WWII, who reportedly became an alcoholic, likely a result of war-induced PTSD (understandably so)...

that probably helps you frame young Vlad's home environment in 1962, but just in case, I'll leave this here.

And, you know the story, trauma begets trauma, violence begets violence...

So is the curse of humanity.

Anyway, back on track...

When Vlad's dad witnessed those events unfurling in the Caribbean in 1962, there is no doubt in my mind:

They consumed him.

And when something like that consumes the paterfamilias, it consumes all under him as he struggles to regain power...

to regain his sense of manhood and agency that is stripped away by events that he can not control.

And so he strikes out to control those things at his mercy; most often literally.

Now, imagine being a 10yo boy in that house, the youngest of three sons, the only son to survive.

Imagine being that 10 year old boy whose older brothers should have been on those ships, upholding the honor & valor of Россия-Матушка...

And you being too young to do anything but bear the brunt of your father's anguish, his terror, his nightly rage, his shame.

Nights, weeks, months on end, the screams of defiance, hate, shot from lips into ears, likely accompanied by palpable, nonmetaphorical pain.

You, subconsciously conflating the messages, internalize that hate. Your father's pain becomes your pain, your father's enemy your own.

And while some victims grow up to emulate their fathers' persona, some take the opposite path.

Tightly controlled, impenetrable.

No drinking, no smoking. Always under control.

Always thinking. Always calculating.

Ambition.
Power.

Ultimate control.

And you plan to give that pain back to the ones who caused your suffering.

So play the long game. You plot your revenge, poetic justice.

And you learn how they did it, ruminating for years over how something so simple would lead to the eventual collapse of your nation...

all the while, plotting the course of your ascension to power, leaving nothing to chance, so you can exact your revenge.

You stole our national pride, my father's love, my childhood away with your acoustic toys.

Now I pay you back, ten times over, with my own.

So, as part of your campaign to undermine the western world, you come after N. American diplomats with targeted acoustic weapons.

OH, THE POETIC JUSTICE.

Not so fast. You missed something.

( Those plotting destruction of the world order and seeking world domination usually do. )

You're too late.

See, you forgot that SOSUS didn't just take down those Soviet submarines on those thirteen days in October...

SOSUS killed your economy too. Taking out the global market for your major export in a slow, slow drip, since 1991.

SOSUS is one of the main sources of evidence of something nobody wanted to believe was happening - that we were changing earth's climate.

Climate change. Global warming. Evidence of a never-before-seen rate of change on a long-term, global scale.

SOSUS caught that too.

Or, rather, let me change that up a bit: it wasn't SOSUS, per se, was used to monitor climate change... but it laid the foundation for ATOC.

There was one physicist involved in the design of SOSUS, from Project Jezebel on forward, whose work bridged the gap between SOSUS & ATOC...

whose "Oceanic remixes" lead to advances in the development of acoustic tomography, acoustical oceanography, marine bioacoustics & climate

and who was reportedly cursed out, by name, by the captain of at least one Russian sub as they were forced to the surface in October 1962.

"Ебена мать," with fist raised to sky, "проклятый Стейнберг"

is the polite version of his turn of phrase, as handed down in family lore.

Or "Damn it, screw you, Steinberg!"

( I hear that they heard it through SOSUS 🤣 )

But yup, that's my Uncle John... taking the Russians down once during his lifetime, and helping do so once again after he died.

And continuing to pissing off little Vlad, even today.

So one more thing - I don't intend to make light of PTSD, alcoholism, child abuse in any form, shape, or fashion... but I will say this:

Vlad, honey: therapy is WAY cheaper than this whole international conspiracy to destroy the West thing... & it'll help you be stronger too

But, if you really must keep going with this plan to demolish NATO, Europe, the USA, China, and whomever else you perceive has slighted you,

holding your quest for revenge, domination, and short-term gain above the long-term interests of your nation's people...

And, my god, using Nazis, who espouse the same ideology as those who damaged your father in the first place, to achieve those ends?

Keep at it, and you'll find yourself up against the BOSUS of your own making.

And you know what happened at the last RU x Steinberg party.
