THREAD - Last week Ibrahim Mousawi was one of 13 Hezbollah MP's to be elected to the Lebanese Parliament. Here is a photo of Mousawi standing alongside Hezbollah leader - Hassan Nasrallah. So who is Mousawi? And what is his link to the UK and @jeremycorbyn?
In 2009 Mousawi was denied entry to the UK by the then Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith on the grounds that his presence would not be "conducive to the public good". He was also banned from the Republic of Ireland in 2007 for security reasons. /1
At the time, there was a big push from a number of high-profile individuals to have Mousawi banned. @David_Cameron described him as "dangerous and divisive". /2
Conservative Peer and former Chairwoman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, Baroness Neville-Jones said - "Ibrahim Mousawi is a well-known extremist...He is a senior figure in Hezbollah. He has constantly preached hatred here and abroad". /3
So what was the basis for these interventions against Ibrahim Mousawi? In 2002 Mousawi called Jews “a lesion on the forehead of history”. /4
Mousawi used to work as the foreign editor for Hezbollah linked Al-Manar TV station. In 2003 Al-Manar was banned in France for airing a series based on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Mousawi said that the ban was as a result of "political pressure by the Jewish lobby". /5
So where does @jeremycorbyn fit into all of this? As I mentioned earlier, there were several calls to ban Mousawi before he eventually was in 2009. One of those calls was made by @David_Cameron in 2007 during PMQ's. /6
He asked the then PM Gordon Brown - "What approach will the Government take when Mousawi attempts to enter the UK to speak at a conference in early December?" (full comment below) /7
As we know, Mousawi was not banned until 2009, however it was certainly public knowledge that he was a controversial figure with a history of antisemitic comments prior to 2009. So what was the conference that @David_Cameron was talking about in December 2007? /8
The conference was the "World Against War Conference", and it was organised by Stop The War Coalition. It was the usual group of far-left anti-war groups and individuals associated with them including, yes you guessed it, @jeremycorbyn. 9/
Here is a photo of Corbyn speaking at the event, as well as A video link to his speech - . /10
Also speaking was the aforementioned Ibrahim Mousawi who at this point had been raised in Parliament as being an extremist and had also been banned from entering Ireland on security grounds. His antisemitism was also well documented. /11
Despite this, Corbyn saw fit to share a platform with him. Here is a photo of Mousawi at the conference (far right). Amusingly the individual speaking in the photo is current Corbyn adviser - Andrew Murray. /12
In one part of Mousawi's speech describing Hezbollah's military success in 06 he said - "People, youngsters, 17 year old, 18 year old, 20, people who believe in their dignity fought to the last blood, to the last drop in their blood in order to have this dignity, this pride.../13
CONT- this is a lesson we should all learn". His speech makes quite clear his support for Hezbollah's military resistance. Remember that their military wing is a proscribed terror group under UK law. /14
Here is the video of Mousawi speaking at the conference - . This is yet another example of Corbyn's historic willingness to share platforms with individuals with a background of extremism and antisemitic remarks. What will his excuse be this time? END
