This is classic - In an interview given to Press TV this week from his home about the "Israel lobby", Ken Livingstone speaks in front of his bookcase where there are two 1970's illustration books from Leni Riefenstahl. Riefenstahl was THE preeminent filmmaker for the Nazi party.
Her most well known film was “Triumph of the Will” about the 1934 Nuremberg rally. It remains one the most important examples of high production value Nazi propaganda.
Riefenstahl also directed and starred in "Tiefland" in which 122 Sinti and Roma extras were personally selected by herself from two holding camps. After filming they were transported to Auschwitz, where most were murdered.
In an interview Riefenstahl gave to the BBC in 2000, Nick Higham writes “Leni Riefenstahl had fallen under Hitler's spell. Talking about him today her voice softens, her eyes light up. But she was not alone, she maintains, in succumbing to his charisma.”
Riefenstahl always maintained she was not a Nazi. She said “I am one of millions who thought Hitler had all the answers. We saw only the good things, we didn't know bad things were to come".
Here are some photos or Riefenstahl with Nazi leaders, including Hitler, Goebbels and Himmler.
Frankly I find it hilarious that Ken Livingstone has two 1970's illustration books about the tribes of Sudan from someone who was deemed a "Nazi sympathiser" (Mitläufer) and who was Hitler's favourite filmmaker. I'm sure Jeremy Corbyn is still just as "sad" that he has left.
To add - anyone who thinks I am spinning this as some kind of scoop or confirmation that Ken Livingstone is a Nazi needs to take a step back. Livingstone has spent the last three years mired in controversy surrounding Hitler. The fact he has two books behind him in an interview..
from one of the most infamous Nazi filmmakers is just very funny. It is an amusing observation, nothing more.
