🎨🦇 You know their names - Sorolla, Van Gogh, Velazquez, Rembrandt, Klimt, and many others - but can you describe their unique artistic styles?

In this MEGA 🧵 let's use #BATMAN to learn what makes each renowned painter unique.

#midjourney #midjourneyAI #AIcommunity #AIart Image
All the #PROMPTS are as simple as this:
➡️ BATMAN BY {NAME}
(i.e., Batman by Velazquez)

If the result wasn't good, a famous painting is added to the prompt:
➡️ BATMAN BY {NAME} IN THE STYLE OF {PAINTING}
(i.e., Batman by Velazquez in the style of Las Meninas)

That's it :)
1. #JoaquínSorolla

Known for his mastery of light and vibrant beach scenes, #Sorolla might depict Batman under the bright sun of Valencia, casting a dramatic shadow, with the cape mimicking the fluidity of the sea. Image

"#Imitation vs #Innovation: Large #Language and Image Models as Cultural #Technologies"

Today's Seminar by SFI External Prof @AlisonGopnik (@UCBerkeley)

Follow our 🧵 for live coverage.
"Today you hear people talking about 'AN #AI' or 'THE AI.' Even 15 years ago we would not have heard this; we just heard 'AI.'"
@AlisonGopnik on the history of thought on the #intelligence (or lack thereof) of #simulacra, linked to the convincing foolery of "double-talk artists":
"We should think about these large #AI models as cultural technologies: tools that allow one generation of humans to learn from another & do this repeatedly over a long period of time. What are some examples?"

@AlisonGopnik suggests a continuity between #GPT3 & language itself:

After months of waiting, I finally got into @OpenAI's DALL-E.

I am trying to work within some consistent themes to learn more about how she thinks.

First up, Tokyo by {Artist}

I don't know that much about art, so I had GPT-3 help me think of artists to try.

Psst.

Interested in learning more about #Venus—and why @NASA's decision to go back there with the #VERITAS and #DAVINCI+ missions is such a big flippin' deal?

Read on.

(a 🧵 on comparative planetology)
It all comes down to one simple question:

Why is Earth's sibling not its twin?

(Credit to @efrankplanetary for that line.)

Venus and Earth are the same(ish) size, age, and composition (in roughly the ~same proportions), orbiting the same star.

So, uh... what's going on?
Here's where we come to our two different stories for Venus—and why figuring out which one is correct is *critical* to understanding not only our own world, but Earth-size worlds everywhere.

Scenario 1: Venus was *always* fucked.

After more of 5 years of #restoration reopens the Sala delle Asse in the #Sforza Castle. The largest painting ever made by #LeonardodaVinci is back. This amazing work of art shows the passion for nature and landscape of the Tuscan master. #thread 1) milanoarte.net/en/portfolio/m…

Here a beautiful landscape that can be easily recognized as #Lombardy landscape. Notice the bell tower with the spire, so typical of Lombard architecture of the 1400s. 2)
