In my neighborhood there was a distress call on an ongoing robbery. I wasn’t around, they called 112 & they were promised the police station in the jurisdiction will be alerted. Hours later no help came. The residence had to organize how to apprehend the armed robbers.
They’ve broken the back wall of a shop and have started robbing when they were surrounded. The noise from the women screaming woke most people up and got one of the robbers to flee for his life. The other one wasn’t so lucky. He was armed with a cutlass & was eventually disarmed.
I’m not talking about weeks ago but just yesterday night into this morning. In the struggle to disarm the robber he was injured & was losing blood. Someone had to rush to the police station where the DPO was lounging & counting the eventual blessings from the innocent in her cell
When asked if the distress call was received, the people were told that the Police st station had no operational vehicle to respond to such calls. They were eventually assigned an officer to go with them to the scene of the crime. When the policeman saw the Robber, he said...
...they can’t arrest a bleeding robber and that he has to be treated. He was then rushed to the hospital and stitched at the expense of the victims of the robbery. Upon reaching the police station, officers in charge recognized the robber by name.
It turns out he was just released days ago from the same station for another Robbery, where he was almost burnt by another community. They claim to know his parents and would do the needful this time. Hearing all these kept me puzzled. Our Security infrastructure has failed.
That recidivist with multiple stitches will soon become a member of SARS should he have a link with any senior police officer. All it will take is a recommendation and deposit and Yomi Shogunle will be defending his actions with National apparatus while blaming the victims.
