Trump just nominated Brett Kavanaugh, GOP lifer turned hard-right judge, noted for arguing that presidents shouldn’t be bothered by trifles like subpoenas and criminal investigations. If you believe nobody is above the law, it’s time to fight.

Took this shot of the protest against Kavanaugh from the Supreme Court steps. That building behind the demonstrators: that’s where the votes will be cast. But it’s in the states—especially Maine and Alaska—where this battle will be won.
There’s a counterprotestor here chanting “Overturn Roe!” through a megaphone as speakers speak. I used my turn at the mic to thank him for making the stakes clear.
You’ll soon hear a lot of GOP operatives & analysts claiming that Kavanaugh wouldn’t kill Roe. Don’t believe it. Anti-choice activists have been building towards this moment for 45 years. Trump knows that if his justices don’t deliver, his base stays home in 2020. This is it.
