Moscow may think it has a propaganda victory on its hands with Seagal but I wouldn’t be so sure.
Seagal was responding to a question asking if he’d ever considered making a film that would promote Buddhism instead of the action movies he is known for. The press conference took place in Russia’s southern Buddhist region of Kalmykia.
Seagal was in Kalmykia to meet its chess-obsessed leader Kirsan Ilyumzhinov who used to regularly tell the media (including this reporter) that he had been abducted by aliens.
The question was “has the Buddhist influence made you think about changing your role as an actor? ...not to play in action movies but in more philosophical and psychological films, for example a film about Buddhism?” Seagal’s answer is pretty much ‘the Jews wouldn’t let me.’
