It took me a decade of denial to realize what it was. I blamed myself & believed the lie–victims are weak. The SOL passed– I wanted the memory erased. It was tucked away safe til #MeToo

Illinois ratified the ERA in June, leaving just One state needed to change constitutional hurdles to ratification.

The 14th & 19th aren’t enough.

The ERA ensures equal rights regardless of gender, was passed in 1974 - 44 years ago. Why is this still even a thing?

The ERA is also an economic issue. It’s proven that when women earn the same as their male colleagues it stimulates the economy.
Gender equality will boost the economy over $4.3 trillion in a decade.

It was passed in 1974 but 44 years later it still hasn’t been ratified.

Even guns have a constitutional amendment.

The only guarantee women have in the Constitution is the 19th amendment-The right to vote.

President Obama left over 100 open fed judicial seats vacant—bc McConnell blocked and refused to hold confirm hearings on federal judges.

In July, Trump signed an EO to end the competitive selection process for judges. This makes them political appointees who he can fire at will
In order to rush his judge noms thru, Trump is bypassing judicial ratings processes by ABA before making his noms. His predecessors went thru the screening process 1st & nixed judges not qualified by ABA

Only 2 judges from 1989—2016 were rated not qualified compared to Trump’s 6

(No, this does not mean I'm abandoning the other thread on The Reactionary Mind, I'm just doing a lot of research in tandem these days. Normally I wouldn't start a new thread before completing the current one, but I'll never get through this essay if I don't.)

If you've never read the United Nations report from 2014 about the egregious human rights violations and crimes against humanity in North Korea, you need to read it. I'm threading some key quotes below:
"Inmates are imprisoned, usually for life, in camps without ever having been brought before a judge... They have never been charged, convicted or sentenced... [Many] are incarcerated based solely on the principle of guilt by family association. Some are even born prisoners."
"The living conditions in the political prison camps are calculated to bring about mass deaths. Forced to carry out grueling labour, inmates are provided food rations that are so insufficient that many inmates starve to death."

I'm not sure why #UmaThurman's story hit me. Was it because 30yr old me dodged a bullet with #HarveyWeinstein? Was it because her friend saw her disheveled and hysterical? Was it because of what happened in that car scene?

No way to know. #PTSD is like that. Unpredictable.

I am not alone in this. We talk about #survivors, but we never talk about how we're supposed to become a survivor.

I wasn't killed, but I was beaten, bitten, punched, slapped, sodomized and raped.

I have permanent scars.
