In Florida speech to international police chiefs association, Trump jokes that the media wants to know what he talked about with Rod Rosenstein today. He doesn't say. "That became a very big story, actually. We had a good talk."
Trump says, "Reducing crime begins with respecting law enforcement." He criticizes politicians he says have made "political attacks on our courageous police officers," claiming their "dangerous anti-police sentiment" makes "life easier for criminals."
Trump says he has directed the attorney general's office "to immediately go to the great city of Chicago to help straighten out the terrible shooting wave...there's no reason for what's going on there."
Trump on stop and frisk policing: "It works, and it was meant for problems like Chicago. It was meant for it. Stop and frisk."
Trump, like Sessions before him, complains of the agreement with the ACLU that requires Chicago police to document their street stops of residents.
Trump touts the confirmation of Kavanaugh. He says Kavanaugh will be a "faithful defender of the rule of law." He calls Kavanaugh "flawless."
Trump on Kavanaugh: "False charges, false accusations, horrible statements that were totally untrue that he knew nothing about. Frankly terms that he probably never heard in his life. He was this he was that. he never even heard of these terms."
Trump calls the Kavanaugh controversy a "disgraceful situation brought about by people that are evil."
Trump, pointing at journalists, tells police chiefs that the media refuses to tell them "how much our country loves you." He adds, "They don't tell you the true feeling." There are cheers.
Trump, touting his transfers of military equipment to local police, denounces people who say it sends a bad message to citizens: "You have people shooting at you, and they're worried about your look? Some day you'll explain that to me please. I don't quite get it. EXPLAIN IT."
Trump tells the police chiefs that ICE has been "subjected to shameless attacks by leading members of the Democrat Party, including outrageous calls to abolish ICE."
"We will always have your back, now and forever," Trump tells the chiefs in closing. He then adds that he is making the country "stronger and bigger and richer and just greater."
