Unintended Consequences of Brexit: A longer transition period gives businesses more time to pack up and leave the UK.

Why? Because once we're in the transition period, we're already out of the EU. There's no way back. No more uncertainty. The situation's clear. 1/3
There's a sharp cliff edge at the end of transition. All the EU treaties and trade deals end on Brexit Day (though the effect is masked by the transition deal). So once the transition period ends, we feel the full impact of Brexit. Companies know this & will act accordingly. 2/3
