THREAD: My favorite apps to recommend in a clinical setting
For smoking cessation there is no question... smokefreeapp.com have patients bringing me their success stories with this app all the time. The money counter is especially effective. The main parts of the app are free. Can sign on for more features for $.
For meditation/mindfulness, insighttimer.com is a favorite, again free with tons of options (can search for “kids sleep” or whatever). Also like stopbreathethink.com for the quick psyched about meditation. Calm.com also good.
For exercise, aaptiv.com or onepeloton.com/digital or get.springmoves.com/spring-running… all have phone accessible video and audio classes for a cheaper alternative than the gym. Spring gives you music to match your walking or running pace. All are subscription.
I have yet to find a really good alcohol or drug app...also mood apps tend to be too gimicky but if I found a good one I would love it.
For insomnia, CBT-I Coach is free from the VA. mobile.va.gov/app/cbt-i-coach
Not an app but an excellent evidenced based insomnia website with pay as you can pricing (just apply for a no questions asked scholarship at checkout:) slumbercamp.co
Another non-app but can be very helpful for patients with family members and situations related to personality disorders: outofthefog.net/forum/index.php
Tbh that is pretty much it...if anyone else has some good mental health or substance abuse apps or websites I’d love some recommendations.
YouTube can be a great source for more specific needs...prenatal or elderly yoga or tai chi or binaural beats.
For a certain 20-39ish mom crowd looking for easy short exercise they would like with kids too... thefitnessmarshall.org (YouTube videos are great)
